Emily’s Most Anticipated Video Games for 2017

With 2016 finally behind, and still hundreds of games stacking up in my room, I can’t help but look forward to some games of 2017. Of course, this will simply expand my backlog of games, but my free time is about to open up more so I think I’ll be just fine.  So which titles am I most excited for? Here are my top 3 games, even though one isn’t technically a game.

Tales of Berseria

I have been playing the Tales of series since I randomly picked up Tales of Destiny 2 (otherwise known as Tales of Eternia). Since them I have played almost every title that America has been lucky to get. Last year Namco Bandai finally took the plunge into the PlayStation 4 with Tales of Zestiria, and while many fans had multiple complaints about it, I was generally happy with it.

Tales of Berseria is a semi-prequel, taking place in the same world as Zestiria but in the distant past. One of the fun links within the two games is the character Eizen, who is mentioned via his sister, Edna, multiple times throughout Zestiria. I’m eager to see how else the games will link. This is also the first Tales games where the main solo protagonist is a female. Our first playable female main protagonist was Milla Maxwell in Tales of Xillia, however, she shared a story with another main protagonist, Jude.

Luckily, I won’t have to wait too long for this game as it releases on January 24th.

Dangan Ronpa 1.2 Reload

I guess I am just a sucker for this series as well. After playing both murder mystery type visual novels on the PlayStation Vita, I couldn’t get enough. And since we haven’t heard much of anything regarding Dangan Ronpa V3 in a while, I can at least get excited over replaying both Dangan Ronpa games again, this time on the PS4.

This series is Phoenix Wright on crack. Bloodier, and over all just more violent, these two games follow the lives of teenagers trapped in a sick murder game. If you can’t solve the murder, you die. However, solving the murder casts the perpetrator into some pretty crazy death sentences of their own. The best part, it’s all being run by a cute cuddly looking bear with an evil eye.

Again, the wait for this game isn’t too far off either as it releases on March 14th.

The Nintendo Switch

Yes, I’m aware it isn’t a game, however, this is quite possibly the first Nintendo home console I have been super excited for since the Nintendo 64. Both my Nintendo Wii and Nintendo Wii U are glorified dust collectors apart from when some random game I just need to have releases. Even my husband, who hasn’t played an actual video game in years suddenly wanted his hands on this system. The home console, plus the on-the-go aspect is just downright appealing.

The Legend of the Zelda Breath of the Wild alone looks amazing on the console. The idea of Mario Kart, Elder Scrolls, or any Mario title for that matter that can be played at home and simply picked up and taken on-the-go without losing your save data is pure bliss. Sure PlayStation had cross saves via the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, but you needed two copies of the game. This console literally can come with you and can be utilized in so many ways. There is no wanting this console. I NEED this console when it releases sometime in March, despite the console’s lineup still semi-remaining a mystery.

What are you excited for in 2017?
